On August 25, 2024, beginning at 2pm we will celebrate the release of the new biography highlighting the history of the rock band Shooting Star. This free event is open to the public and will also feature the background of the band Missouri, whose history is chronicled in the biography "Movin' On," released earlier this year.
Not only will original members of Shooting Star, including Gary West, Ron Verlin, and Steve Thomas be in attendance, they will be joined by original members of Missouri for a program followed by a brief Q&A about both of these Kansas City area bands. There will then be a book signing where fans can purchase the biographies and meet members of both bands for autographs. Other Kansas City music notables will be in attendance, including such icons as KY-102 legend Max Floyd.
Hang on for your life! Author and historian Jeremy Amick shares the Shooting Star story, which is one of promise, hope, and dreams that were crushed by a corrupt music industry. The band exploded onto the music scene in the 70s and 80s, recording with famous producers and engineers.
“For every reason,” Ämick says. “They should have been as major and popular as bands like Aerosmith,” but they didn’t achieve the widespread success their music deserved."
PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT A CONCERT, but a rare opportunity to meet some of the band members of Shooting Star and Missouri, purchase their biographies, and have them autographed!You'll also be able to meet the author of the books, as well as other KC and music personalities.
A portion of the profits will go to the Silver Star Families of America, a non-profit based in Clever, Missouri that assists military veterans who have been wounded or injured in a combat zone.
Event will be in the theater with auditorium seating.
This is a FREE event to attend, but you must register in advance. Seating is LIMITED, SO DON'T WAIT!!
Doors open at 1pm. Presentation will begin at 2pm with the Q&A and book signing to follow.
